Overview![]() A good car seat is essential equipment for every baby and young child. The evidence is overwhelming: A properly fitted and installed car seat can save your child's life in even a minor car accident. If you're pregnant, be sure you get a car seat well before your due date so you can keep your baby safe in the car from day one. Tip: It's the law -- all 50 states require that babies up to 18 months old ride in a car seat, and federal law now requires that children up to age 6 (or 60 pounds) be in a car seat. Many states will soon require car seats for children up to age 8 or 80 pounds. Check local laws in your state -- and wherever you travel -- for other regulations Shop Car Seats See all buying guides |
